Todd Pisani

Todd is Regional Coordinator with Transitional Education and Employment Management Gateway through Rutgers University.

What did you enjoy most about your academic program?

The cohort model provided an amazing opportunity to meet other professionals and network across the state with folks from a variety of backgrounds. At one point I got involved with a classmate in writing grant opportunities for those we serve, bridging Philadelphia and Camden efforts. The academic program itself is mostly fantastic, but I gained just as much form the camaraderie and support of my classmates.

How do you feel that your academic program prepared you for your current work?

The academic program reinforced many things I’ve learned through experiences, but also forced me to sharpen knowledge and skills in target areas, especially related to budgeting and data collection and assessment. Particularly, the challenges of Dr. Stephen Danley’s course forced me to sharpen my capacity for grant seeking and writing.

What advice would you give prospective students considering the program?

If you are considering this program, definitely the Open House–the is where I decided it was the program for me. Compare it to other programs you are considering, and then take into account the “do-ability” of the program. You earn credits based upon your resume, which is unique, and then you are committed to 2 years of Saturday mornings, and not even Summer classes! The program is challenging but they are very supportive and everybody works together as a cohort, which is lovely.

What is your current role?

I am currently Regional Coordinator with Transitional Education and Employment Management Gateway through Rutgers University. I supervise staff and social work interns at a youth center in Camden providing case management to over 50 youth as part of a federally funded research project. I am also a youth service commission member, and on the board of several non-profits including Heart to Hire, Healing 10, and CYLAB-developing Juvenile Justice Youth Councils throughout Camden City. Additionally, I am owner and CEO of Trulight Youth Development Enterprise, LLC–a medical rehabilitative intensive in-community organization providing therapy and mentoring to youth in Camden and Burlington counties. I am also a trustee at Temple Har Zion, and president of the Men’s Club.
