An important part of the Education Leadership Specialization’s focus is on the creation of applied-learning experiences. Since 2003, more than 60 percent of Education Leadership students have received fellowship and scholarship support.
We work with the Rutgers-Camden Community Leadership Center to create field placements and service-learning opportunities for MPA Education Leadership students to enhance classroom instruction with real-life experience. Over the years, students have gained valuable skills and insight through school-based internships at the LEAP Academy University Charter School and other public schools.
Candidates must be currently enrolled or admitted to the MPA program and must have a commitment to public education and demonstrate leadership potential. Awards are tuition fellowships and require a commitment to working in an internship at the LEAP Academy University Charter School.
Applications are reviewed by a faculty committee, and students who receive fellowships are required to commit to working at the LEAP Academy for at least one to two years after receiving the MPA degree, depending in the total amount of the fellowship.
