Students can specialize in one of four concentrations within the MPA
degree:
- The Community Development Concentration is designed to provide students with theoretical and applied exposure to domestic and international aspects of power, policy, advocacy, and resource allocation to address urban public administration.
- The Educational Policy and Leadership concentration
prepares students for roles in public education as administrators or policy
specialists. This track emphasizes changes in education and how
to lead through change.
- The Executive MPA this program targets mid to upper level managers possessing 5+ years of administrative and/or managerial experience for executive leadership positions. The program uses a cohort model and is designed to develop and enhance the students’ leadership, organizational, policy and public management skills.
- The Public Management concentration
prepares professionals for careers in government, nonprofit organizations,
and businesses in roles relating to public issues. Most graduates
serve in state, local, and federal government or community service agencies
within the region; Some work in foundations, corporations, or other
settings.
- The International Public Service and Development Concentration
prepares students for overseas service with the US Peace Corps or other
international organizations and ultimately for careers in international
development or community development and other fields in the US. Graduates
of this track work in nonprofit, government, philanthropic, educational,
and other settings.
