EDUCATION FELLOWSHIPS

An important part of the Educational Policy and Leadership Concentration’s program focus is on the creation of applied-learning experiences for our students. Since 2003, over 60% of EPLC graduate students have received fellowship and scholarship support.

The EPLC works with the Rutgers Center for Strategic Urban Community Leadership (CSUCL) to create field placements and service-learning opportunities for graduate students in the MPA program that enhance their classroom instruction with real-life experiences.

With the CSUCL, the Educational Policy and Leadership Concentration has arranged dozens of placements with Rutgers University, the Center for Strategic Urban Community Leadership, and LEAP Academy University Charter School. All of our students benefit from these fellowships both academically and professionally and gain valuable insight into their future careers as school leaders.

ELIGIBILITY
Candidates must be currently enrolled or admitted to the MPA program and must have a commitment to public education and demonstrate leadership potential. Awards are tuition fellowships and require a commitment to working in an internship at the LEAP Academy University Charter School.

Applications are reviewed by a faculty committee and students who receive fellowships are required to commit to working at the LEAP Academy for at least 1-2 years after receiving the MPA degree, depending in the total amount of the fellowship.

FELLOWSHIPS FOR PEACE CORPS STUDENTS

The Educational Policy and Leadership Concentration also creates education fellowships for students returning from Peace Corps service abroad. Together with the Rutgers CSUCL and Peace Corps USA, the Educational Policy and Leadership Concentration helps graduate students find opportunities to pursue Master’s degrees in Public Administration.
